Birkhill Castle is a playfully-restored Victorian manor house in Fife, Scotland, available for exclusive hire for up to 30 guests (and an additional six children). Within the castle’s storied walls and rolling grounds, you and your guests will find plenty of space for special gatherings.

The library at Birkhill has seen a healthy mix of raucous gatherings and quiet moments over the generations. It is a favourite retreat for our guests, offering a corner of the castle where life can move a little more slowly. Feel free to make this room your own – peruse the books, curl up, and exhale. The library can be opened up into the drawing room for larger parties.

The family kitchen is the beating heart of the castle – a leisurely space to wander in and out of. The space is informal by design, with colourful furniture in conversation with more contemporary pieces of art and ceramics. Birkhill is yours to make your own, so you are welcome to use this space for breakfasts or lazy suppers. The kitchen seats 24 across a large table and two smaller round tables.

This dining room has so many stories to tell. Seating up to 20 people around a large table overlooking the garden, the room comes into its own as friends and families share long dinners together. For smaller gatherings, we are happy to shorten the table so you can get cosy (made all the cosier with the fire roaring). Dinners in the dining room are served with a full butler service, if desired.

As you emerge from the darker tones of the main hall, the drawing room offers a lighter, airier space to come and gather. With walls lined with a custom patterned paper and multiple views overlooking the grounds, the drawing room sets a calm and gentle pace. We serve afternoon tea in here, if you wish. The room is also a favourite for pre-dinner drinks and post-dinner huddles. If you’re musically inclined, the grand piano is yours to play. The drawing room seats 24 people, or 41 when used with the adjoining library.

Each and every bedroom at Birkhill brings its own character and charm, in the grand tradition of Scottish country home. Some are larger, some are small – all are supremely comfortable. The 16 rooms are split over the first and second floors of the castle, with a further tranche of seven rooms in the stables. We also have a large nursery which is perfect for small children to share. For larger groups, the storied ballroom at Birkhill can seat up to 50 people. This room really comes into its own at night, light by candles and humming with conversation. The space is highly flexible, and we are happy to remove the furniture to let you dance the night away, or enjoy a morning yoga session.

A place to get cosy, and a firm favourite suite of rooms with our younger guests – the cinema room is acoustically panelled, with a positively enormous television with all the apps you need to access your favourite content. The billiard room is situated in the old wing of the castle, next to the gym, with a championship-level table and full-size balls. The castle also has table tennis for intense afternoon match-ups.

A smaller room adjoining the family kitchen for intimate breakfasts, meetings, or small suppers, with patio doors leading outside for lazy Summer afternoons. The room is especially cosy with the fire lit – a favourite spot for poker nights.
